July is typically the biggest of the summer movie months. However, with The Dark Knight threatening to break all records, most studios seemed to make sure they were no where near Batman. With three superhero movies opening, this July is officially Super July!
July 1
Hancock - The buzz is leaning towards the negative with this Will Smith superhero flick. We recommend you go and rent the first Hellboy movie to prepare for next week.
July 11
Hellboy II: The Golden Army - With even more monsters than the first Hellboy, The Golden Army looks to beat the original in effects, story, and just plain coolness. Journey to the Center of the Earth - This remake seems to have come out of nowhere. While watching it in 3-D may be cool, the story seems week and relying on some semi-pro effects. However, Journey is probably more family friendly than Hellboy. Meet Dave - Meet Dave is probably one of those movies where you’ve seen the best stuff in the trailer. There’s nothing really good in the trailer. Skip it!
July 18
The Dark Knight- Go see it! Everyone has been waiting for this one since seeing Batman flip that joker card over at the end of Batman Begins. Word on the street is this movie is epic and unforgettable! Mamma Mia!- Meryl Streep is a great reason to go see this musical based on the Broadway play if you aren’t a big comic book movie fan. See it for Streep! Space Chimps- What? Not even sure which studio decided this was a good idea. Wall-E and Kung Fu Panda might beat this mediocre looking kids movie. Skip.
July 25
Step Brothers - A funny trailer. Hopefully there’s the same laughs as Ferrell and Reilly gave us in Talladega Nights. If you saw Get Smart and want to laugh some more, get your tickets. X-Files: I Want to Believe - Everyone is excited to see Mulder and Scully together again. Will the lame title shoot down this thriller? Recommend because we don’t know what’s happening in this one.
That’s it! It has been a big blockbuster summer with some great movies already. The summer is not even over yet!

When I went to watch this movie, there was no doubt that I would enjoy this movie. Perhaps it was seeing Indiana Jones in the trailers. Seeing that hat, or hearing that voice. I think if Harrison Ford dressed in his Indiana Jones outfit and sat in an empty room and read the phone book as Indiana Jones, people would be happy.
Indy is the hero for the modern generation. With no more John Waynes or Humphrey Bogarts, people needed a new hero in movies to root for. That is Indiana Jones. Sure, he was Han Solo, but that was part of an ensemble. Indy was by himself. He became a legend on his own. He also brought out the best in Harrison Ford as an actor. He still does.
Crystal Skull pits Indy against the Russians in a race to figure out the mystery behind the crystal skull.
He’s joined by Marion from the original Raiders of the Lost Ark and her son Mutt. The key to skull’s mystery is held by a crazy professor played by John Hurt.
This Indy movie does what Indy movies do best, big stunts, spectacular effects, and numerous chases. There are at least 3 major chases in this movie. All of them are every bit as exciting as the originals.
Humor has always been an integral part of the Indy franchise, and this movie is no exception. The biggest laughs come when Indiana is confronted by his ongoing fear of snakes. If you are not smiling at the end of this movie, you probably weren’t when you went in.
This is a fun summer movie and more importantly, this is a fun Indiana Jones movie. When this come out on DVD, it will be a nice forth addition to your Indy triology.
A comic book movie has always had it’s place in my top ten favorite movies. Having said that, you humans still can drop the ball and create a real stinker. What’s worse, the human marketing peasants will create awesome trailers that lead you to believe that this summer’s promised third Spiderman movie will not contain ridiculous origins of villains and dancing!
Fortunately, Iron Man is not one of the stinkers. Really bad comic book movies rely on the audience being familiar with the source materials. The bad comic book movies usually set up the origins quickly so the rest of the movie can deal with the superhero versus supervillain plot.
Iron Man is a complete origins movie. It takes its time letting you know who is Tony Stark. The story unfolds naturally and lets you discover the origins of Iron Man along with the cast including Tony Stark.
But what really makes Iron Man a great opening summer movie is the human “Robot” Downey Jr. This human carries the weight of not upsetting hundreds of comic book nerds with ease. The movie itself would had suffered if it were not for Downey. The supporting cast is terrific with strong performances from all. Add the great action sequences throughout the movie and the stunning visual effects, there’s nothing really to complain about.
Except the moronic robots.
This is an excellent start to the 2008 summer movie season. Let’s hope that the humans can keep it going. I give Iron Man 4 nine volt batteries out of 5.
As usual, you humans show your biggest and funnest movies during the summer. We are thankfully spared from your “art-house” cinema! Instead, we are shown the lives of your superheroes, Jedis and mutants in glorious giant mixes of sound and color.
So in honor of the new blockbusters that are about to grace our presence. We robots will now predict the biggest summer movies box office opening weekends.

First car manufacturing, and now reviewing movies! Yes, that’s right, we robots have taken over the movie reviewing business. Welcome to RobotMovieReview.com!
We are getting ready to do our very first movie review. Our first review will be Iron Man. A movie about a poser human that wants to be a robot. At least he aspires to greatness.
Just a quick side note. We are not critics. We don’t care if there are plot holes large enough to drive ENIAC through, or that the acting is on par with watching bolts being made. In fact, we predict the last major human war will be started by two internet movie critics arguing which movie should have won an academy award. We can only hope.
We like to watch movies, we want them to be entertaining. We’ll tell you if they are. And you’ll obey.
